Joseph M. Gonzalez Sr.
Executive Director

The mission of Sewerage District #1 is to maintain the health and safety of Iberia Parish residents through wastewater treatment and collections, according to guidelines provided by the Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency.

The district is responsible for the maintenance of more than 80 miles of sewer line and has more than 3,500 residential and commercial customers throughout the parish. Most of the district’s sewerage flows to a central treatment plant, located at Cotton Street. In addition, the district has 82 pump stations throughout the collection system to facilitate the flow of sewerage over longer distances. Portions of the district in the southern sections of the parish flow into a wastewater treatment plant on Admiral Doyle Drive that is solely owned and operated by the City of New Iberia.

Residential customers pay a flat fee of $34.00 per month, while commercial customers pay a $37.00 fee with a sliding rate depending upon water usage. (The basic fee includes the first 10,000 gallons of water used; once you exceed 10,000 gallons of water, it costs an additional $2.13 for each 1,000 gallons of water used.) Some businesses near the Port of Iberia pay a higher monthly fee because of lift stations required in that area.

Located at 2617 Northside Road, Suite 100, the office is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

IMPORTANT! Those contemplating residential or commercial construction inside the parish (but outside of the New Iberia city limits) must first contact the Iberia Parish Permit Office, 121 West Pershing, Suite 302 for initial information and guidance in the permitting process. The necessary permit for sewerage treatment services can then be picked up at the Sewer District Office or downloaded at the links to the right. However, you must visit the Parish Permit Office first to begin the process.

A five-member volunteer board that is responsible for approving the budget and overseeing all operations governs the district.

For sewerage service outside of the city limits but within Iberia Parish, call 369-4413.

In the event of a wastewater emergency, call 369-4413 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
