The Iberia Parish Rabies and Animal Control facility operates the Animal Shelter located at 2017 Seaway Access Road. The shelter is open from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. On Tuesday, the shelter is open only from 2 pm to 4:30 pm.
The Iberia Parish Rabies and Animal Control Department’s main purpose is to provide a public health program to ensure rabies vaccination and registration for all dogs and cats residing in Iberia Parish. The program includes enforcing the rabies and leash law ordinances, inclusive of animal quarantine and observation due to animal bites.
The shelter also houses unwanted and stray animals picked up by patrolling animal wardens, or dropped off at the shelter by citizens.
A variety of cats and dogs are typically available for adoption at the shelter. There is no charge to adopt, however state requires that all adopted pets be spayed or neutered, and vaccinated for rabies. To adopt a pet, you must have a $70 money order – no cash or credit cards accepted. The $70 provides for a $50 spaying or neutering voucher at a variety of local veterinarians, as well as $20 voucher for the rabies vaccination.
