The Iberia Parish Rabies and Animal Control facility operates the Animal Shelter located at 2017 Seaway Access Road. The shelter is open from 8 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday for rescue release and reclaim, and is open from 1 pm to 4:00 pm. for adoptions.
The Iberia Parish Rabies and Animal Control Department’s main purpose is to provide a public health program to ensure rabies vaccination and registration for all dogs and cats residing in Iberia Parish. The program includes enforcing the rabies and leash law ordinances, inclusive of animal quarantine and observation due to animal bites.
The shelter also houses unwanted and stray animals picked up by animal wardens, or dropped off at the shelter by citizens.
The shelter has an adoption program which consists of a variety of cats and dogs. All animals are required to be spayed/neutered and rabies vaccinated prior to adoption. Therefore, an $80 money order only is requested at the time of adoption. The $80 provides the animal with the spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, 7-in1 vaccine, bordetella and microchip.
If your pet is impounded the following fees are assessed;
Reclaim fee is $15 the first day and $5 each additional day if the animal is up to date with Rabies Vaccination,
$35 the first day and $5 each additional day if the animal is not current with Rabies Vaccination, Includes a voucher to receive a rabies vaccination.
Iberia Parish Rabies Control works with approved 501c3 non-profit rescue organizations, and does have a pull fee as followed;
Rescue Pull Fee is $10 to cover cost of the 2 vaccinations administered on intake
Rabies Control is a vital part of the community, therefore if an animal is quarantined at the parish animal shelter the following fee is assessed for the boarding and care of your animals;
Bite Quarantine fee is $70 for 10 days and $5 each additional day
$80 for 10 days if the owner requests the intake vaccinations and $5 each additional day.
These fees are based off of the Iberia Parish Ordinances impound fee of up to $15 dollars per day the animal is at the shelter and are subject to change.
The Facility does not accept monetary donations, but any physical items may be dropped off at 2017 Seaway Access Rd. New Iberia, La 70560. Please note any donation with a donor assessed or receipt value of over $1000 must be sent to council for approval prior to shelter acceptance.
