Whether it’s providing essential utilities, maintaining public spaces, or responding to emergencies, local government plays a vital role in making communities strong and vibrant, and giving our residents access to the services that they need is essential to the health and well-being of the community.

One of the most important roles of local government is to be responsive to the needs of the community. The Iberia Parish Government Boards and Commissions oversee a number of Parish owned assets and resources that offer services to the public. From airports to water districts, it is the goal of these boards, commissions, and departments to provide superior residential services that enhance citizen quality of life. Additionally, Iberia Parish provides numerous playgrounds, picnic areas, tennis courts, swimming pools and recreation centers located throughout the Parish, providing services for residents of all ages.

While we have provided an overview below, more information on each of these Boards and Commissions can be found by clicking on the name of each service. Airport

Acadiana Regional Airport has made improvements to its taxi lanes, taxiways, hangers, and terminal with over $2,000,000 in combined funding assistance from FAA and DOTD. Multiple companies have planned expansions which will bring additional buildings and additional employees.

Animal Control

The Iberia Parish Rabies and Animal Control Department’s main purpose is to provide a public health program to ensure rabies vaccination and registration for all dogs and cats residing in Iberia Parish. The program includes enforcing the rabies and leash law ordinances, inclusive of animal quarantine and observation due to animal bites.

County Agent / LSU AG

The Iberia Parish County Agent’s Office is a useful resource for a variety of both agricultural and consumer questions. The department has three main focuses: Agricultural/Natural Resources, Family & Consumer Sciences and 4-H Youth Development. Fire District No. 1

The Iberia Fire District #1 provides comprehensive fire protection, rescue, hazmat, and medical services to the area of Iberia Parish. Guided by a Board of Commissioners, the mission of the Iberia Fire District #1 is to protect life, property, and the environment.

Health Unit

The Iberia Parish Health Unit provides a wide variety of medical services, including vaccinations, sanitarian services, family planning, vital record keeping and more.

Homeland Security/E-911

The Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is to safely and effectively manage disasters. This office works closely with parish employees, fire department personnel, local, state and federal law enforcement, industry and hospitals, the Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness and numerous other agencies, to assist the public during a disaster. The E-911 Department is also located in this office. This Department assists residents in creating new addresses, and administers the E-911 Communications System.

Housing – Section 8

The Section 8 Housing Assistance Payments Program provides rental assistance to low-income families living in rural areas of Iberia Parish. The program currently funds 226 families through the Section 8 rental assistance program.

HR Job

The Human Resources Department manages employee benefits, new-hire paperwork, payroll, safety meetings, and facility inspections. It also oversees risk management, including claims and interactions with attorneys and insurance companies.

Iberia Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau

We invite you to savor the difference in Iberia Parish where our blend of Cajun spices provides a unique taste of Louisiana’s Cajun Country. The Iberia Parish Convention & Visitors Bureau is the official parish marketing agency promoting New Iberia, Avery Island, Jefferson Island, Jeanerette, Loreauville and Delcambre as a destination. Marketing programs target leisure travelers, business travelers, media, entertainment industry, and the travel trade including group tour planners, meeting planners, sports planners and special event planners.

Iberia Parish Library System

The Iberia Parish Library System includes the Main Library and seven additional branches, and features more than 285,000 titles. In addition to the Main Branch, located at 445 E. Main Street, the library system also includes multiple branches disbursed through out Iberia Parish.

Isle Of Iberia

Iberia Parish’s own beautiful campground, complete with a lazy river, pool, stocked pond, event center and lots of camping space.

Mosquito Control

The mission of the Iberia Parish Mosquito Abatement District is to control mosquitoes that may transmit disease and reduce the abundance of annoying nuisance mosquito populations.

Parks and Recreation

The Iberia Parish Parks and Recreation Department operates 14 parks throughout the parish, totaling almost 400 acres of green space available to the public. Organized competitive sports for both children and adults are available, including softball, baseball, soccer, football, swimming, basketball, volleyball and tennis.

Permit Department

The purpose of the Iberia Parish Permit Office is to ensure that all building codes adopted by the Iberia Parish Council are enforced and in compliance, relating to the construction of any structure outside the city limits of New Iberia and within the boundaries of Iberia Parish.

Planning and Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Departments mission is to provide the best quality of life for its citizens, Iberia Parish has long had in place Subdivision Regulations which provide for quality development of land in the parish.

Public Works

The Iberia Parish Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining roadways, roadsides, drainage and collecting debris on more than 400 miles of roads and 800 miles of canals and ditches throughout the parish.

Registrar of Voters

The Iberia Parish Registrar of Voters Office, is responsible for the registration of all voters, as well as the administration and enforcement of the rules and laws of the Secretary of State relating to voting matters. This office is also responsible for conducting early voting, and absentee voting by mail.

Sewerage District No. 1

Sewerage District #1 maintains the health and safety of Iberia Parish residents through wastewater treatment and collections, according to guidelines provided by the Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Storm Water

Iberia Parish is implementing a comprehensive Storm Water Management Program aimed at reducing the levels of pollutants carried by rainfall runoff into our waterways.

SugArena

The SugArena features more than 100,000 square feet of covered space for rodeos, concerts, livestock shows, dog shows and other events in the parish.

Waterwork District No. 3

The mission of Waterworks District #3 is to maintain the health and safety of Iberia Parish residents through efficient treatment, production and distribution of potable water, according to guidelines provided by the Department of Health and Hospitals.
